T(r)anzkultur Summer School focuses on exploring the diverse interconnections and contact zones of dance and transculturality through dance performances, practical workshops, and film screenings. At the T(r)anzkultur 2024, we will explore how the Asian diaspora identity and experience are being represented and articulated through dances, and delve into the processes, dynamics, and materializations that emerge and become visible when urban dance and transculturality intersect.
During this four day Summer School, we invite scholars, choreographers, dancers, and filmmakers to examine new approaches and challenges in the field of Asian diaspora studies and dance studies. In addition, we will provide students and a broad community audience with an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to understanding movement, cultural diversity, and artistic expression.
We will invite speakers representing an array of disciplines, including East Asian Studies, Asian Diaspora Studies, Dance studies, Film and Media studies, Theatre Studies from Europe, Asia and North America. Invited speakers and participants will delve into the topics, including (but not limited to) migration and movement, trauma and memory, digital technology in dance and video art culture. In addition to the panel presentations and discussions, there will be a roundtable discussion with local experts, and daily dance workshops and video workshops for registered undergraduate students.
